Having started in 1908, there is a huge responsibility for the family running the Carter Group to stay in business whatever is going on in the world...
Two world wars, the great depression of the 1930s, the cold war, social unrest in the 1970s, the economic downturn in 2008 and now a global pandemic – the Carter Group has survived it all. The family, currently headed by Nick Carter is still in business with the Crane Hire, Plant Hire, Construction and EB Construction Training all going strong.
Director, Ben Carter runs the Crane and Plant Hire businesses on a daily basis with Nick keeping on top of Carter Construction and the training division, EB Construction Training. Nick and Ben are both qualified Appointed Persons, Lift Supervisors and Crane Operators and can also fulfil any of the other roles associated with crane operations. There is a wider Lift Team that can act as slinger/signallers, vehicle marshals, etc. Nick is also a qualified NPORS instructor for most construction-related plant operation.
A small team keeps the office running with administration and accounts and we have a network of qualified construction and crane personnel that can be called upon when things get busy – as they often do.
Based near Exeter in East Devon, naturally the majority of our work is in the South West, although we are always happy to travel further for larger jobs or specialist lifting work. Indeed, as one of the very few Crane Hire companies with the correct gear for lifting caravans, mobile homes and boats, we often find ourselves working much further afield.
Training courses can take place at our own facility or at your site, wherever is most convenient. The correct plant must be available for the trainees with space to use it and an empty room for the written part of the training. We are only too happy to fit in with your requirements – and we can supply all the correct anti-coronavirus health and safety measures.
